Pre-Advanced Placement – Principles of Mathematics MPM1DP
This course enables students to develop an understanding of mathematical concepts related to algebra, analytic geometry, and measurement and geometry through investigation, the effective use of technology, and abstract reasoning. Students will investigate relationships, which they will then generalize as equations of lines, and will determine the connections between different representations of a linear relation. They will also explore relationships that emerge from the measurement of three-dimensional figures and two-dimensional shapes. Students will reason mathematically and communicate their thinking as they solve multi-step problems.
Course Note: Students in the enriched course will be evaluated based on the same expectations as students in the regular academic course, but they will be challenged with more diverse problems and the underlying concepts of the course will be explored more deeply and broadly. Students who are interested in writing math contests are encouraged to take this course.
COURSE NOTE: The purpose of this Pre-Advanced Placement course is to provide mathematics students the opportunity to broaden the scope of their mathematics learning at their grade level, and to expand and enrich their problem solving skills.
