WATERLOO — Electric cars whizzed past orange traffic cones and made sharp turns as seven high school students drove lap after lap on a 600-metre track in a parking lot at University of Waterloo.
These cars, made of steel and aluminum, were built on lunch hours and after school for University of Waterloo’s Electric Vehicle Challenge.
A team of six budding engineers from St. Benedict’s Catholic Secondary School in Cambridge watched with anticipation as the yellow electric car they built raced around the track.
“It’s great getting to race and see your creation in action,” said Grade 10 student Andrew Linington.
